Effective 15 September 2026
discapp runs on your Mac and keeps your interviews there. There is no discapp account, no discapp server holding your recordings, and nothing about your use of the app is reported back to us.
What stays on your Mac
Your recordings, imported audio, transcripts, evidence, insights and reports live in the project folder on your own disk. We hold no copy of any of it, and we keep no backup of it, because it never reaches us.
What leaves your Mac, and where it goes
discapp uses AI for two jobs, and both run in the cloud. The app uses your own OpenRouter API key, saved in a file on your Mac that only your user account can read, so those requests are yours and are billed to you. Each job has two hops:
- Transcription and evidence. Your Mac sends the audio and the text derived from it through OpenRouter to Google's Gemini models.
- Insights. Your Mac sends reviewed evidence through OpenRouter to Anthropic's Claude by default. The model picker also offers a cheaper Gemini option, and choosing it sends those same requests to Google instead. The app names the provider for the model you picked.
Nothing is sent until you start one of those steps.
What we ask those providers for
Every request discapp makes tells OpenRouter that the provider may not collect the content for its own purposes. That applies to all of them, without exception.
Zero data retention is a separate, stronger ask, and discapp does not request it everywhere. It requests it on transcription and on the evidence extraction that follows. It does not request it on the shorter scope check that runs after extraction, nor on either Insights route. Where it is not requested, the provider's own retention policy applies, and for Anthropic that is currently up to 30 days.
We can tell you what we ask for. We cannot verify from here what a provider then does, so we do not claim more than that.
What we never see
- No account. The app never asks you to sign in, and we hold no profile for you.
- No analytics and no crash reporting. The app reports nothing automatically. Diagnostics exist only as a file you export yourself from the Help menu, and you decide whether to send it. It describes the app and the run, never your interview content.
- No interview content. Audio, transcripts and evidence go only to the providers above, from your machine, with your key.
The download
Downloads are limited to Gemography teammates during the closed beta. The download page sends a one-time code to your Gemography email through Cloudflare Access, which records that sign-in so the link stays limited. That code is for the download only. It is not an app login, and the app never asks for it.
This website
Everything we wrote for this site is served from this domain. The fonts are here rather than at a font provider, and we load no script from anywhere else.
Cloudflare serves the site, and it adds one thing of its own: it injects its Web Analytics script into some responses, which records cookie-less page views. That is Cloudflare's script, not ours, and we cannot serve the page without accepting that it may appear. We set no cookies.
Deleting things
Your interview content is on your own disk, so you remove it the way you remove any file. In the app, Forget project takes a project out of the app's list and leaves the files where they are. To delete the content itself, delete the project folder in Finder. We hold no copy, so there is nothing on our side to delete.
Records about you do exist outside your Mac. The ones this site and its download create are held by Cloudflare rather than by us: the sign-in event when you requested a download code, and cookie-less page views. Separately, the AI providers named above receive whatever you send them, under the terms in that section. Ask in your invite thread and we will tell you what we know of and remove what we can.
Children
discapp is a professional tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Changes
The closed beta is moving quickly, and this page changes when the app's behaviour changes. The effective date above tells you when it was last true.
Reaching us
Reply in your invite thread. We read everything and answer there. That thread is the channel for privacy questions too, including anything you want removed or explained.
